Eh!

What the word of God says on [same sex marriage] is nothing. Marriage was designed by God to be one man one woman, naked in a garden, sexually exploring each other in his presence. The story of Sodom tells us that God was judging the cities not because of anal sex, or even anal rape, but because the society was violent and oppressive. The law extolled by Moses calls for men and women caught in same sex activities to be put to death, but so were adulterers, people engaged in any fornication, disobedient children, disobedient slaves, and people who wore clothes made from two types of fabric, among others. The law required lots of immoral actions to be punished with death, but the bible requires you to be free from sin to carry it out. Since no one in history was ever that perfect except Jesus, anytime we’re caught judging others for their moral failures we’re adding to our own. Jesus response to sinners was not judgement or calls for execution under the law, if you’ve read this far you know what he did do to address the sin we all live under and owe a debt for. The Bible says that sex outside of covenant is destructive and not good for you, because of how important sex is, and how likely we are to engage in idolatrous obsessions around sex (See our current political debate). My point is, rather than saying, “what the word of God says”, you should probably read the word. And with a lot of good hebrew commentaries, because you don’t read the original language. If in the end, you are more worried about other people marrying people of the same-sex than your own tendency to assume your right behavior will save you rather than the saving grace of Jesus, you need to read it again. And then probably one more time after that.
